Norwegian Minister of Health and Care Services, Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, attended the 66th World Health Assembly to lead a side-event on non-communicable diseases. The focus of the event was to share experiences on measures countries have introduced to drive national progress in this area. Read more

The Human Rights Council has unanimously adopted the resolution Protecting Human Rights Defenders, tabled by Norway. “The adoption of this resolution sends an important signal of support to all the courageous people who are fighting against human rights violations all over the world,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide. The Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Espen Barth Eide, hosted 4-5 March 2013 an international Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons in Oslo. Delegates from 127 countries as well as several UN organisations, the International Red Cross movement, representatives of civil society and other relevant stakeholders participated. Read more

As the President of the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions, Ambassador Steffen Kongstad recently visited Southeast Asia to promote accesion and learn more about implementation. Read more

OCHA hosted the 7th Syrian Humanitarian Forum in geneva on 19 February. Ambassador Kongstad made a statement on behalf of Norway focusing on the role and situation of Syrian women and girls. Read more

The Norwegian Government is to contribute NOK 30 million to the UN trust funds for Mali. The Government is also willing to consider a contribution if the proposed UN-led peacekeeping operation to Mali is established. Read more
