In its statement to the Meeting of States Parties to the BTWC on 7 December, Norway highlighted i.a. the need for developing new synergies and building stronger partnerships with organizations that survey and combat disease on a daily basis, such as the WHO, FAO and the OIE, as well as the need to strengthen Confidence Building Measures. After two weeks of negotiations in Dublin, 111 participating states decided to adopt an historic new Convention on Cluster Munitions that prohibits cluster munitions that cause unacceptable harm to civilians.  The signing ceremony will be in Oslo on 3 December 2008.  Read more >
