March 2 2009 - Mine Ban Treaty celebrates 10 years.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Raymond Johansen was one of the key actors in the celebration of the tenth anniversay of the Mine Ban Treaty in Geneva March 2.

The event was marked by symbolic mine explosions, music, statements and the launch of 10 Mine Toon Clips. The event took place on Place des Nations and was organised by Handicap International with the support of Switzerland, Norway and Colombia. The event utilised "the Broken Chair" which symbolises the victims of landmines with its tre legs. The Swiss president of the Mine Ban Treaty, ICBL, victims of landmines, the Vice-president of Colombia and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Raymond Johansen held statements on behalf of the convention.

An informal meeting between the state parties on the upcoming review conference of the Mine Ban Treaty in Cartagena was held after the event. This meeting was conducted by president-designate of the Mine Ban Treaty ambassador Susan Eckey, with the participance of Vice-president Fransisco Santos Calderon.
