Doha Conference on Financing for Development: Focus on Gender Equality as Smart Economics.
In his key-note address at the side event on Economics of Gender Equality that Norway arranged in collaboration with the UN ECE and other regional commissions, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon underlined that the global economy would come to a halt without the unpaid and under-appreciated work of women in the informal sector.
The Norwegian Minister of Development, emphasized in his welcoming address, that gender equality was critical to economic growth and development. This message was echoed by the other participants on the high level panel of ministers of development and finance.
