The Chairman of the General Council invited Heads of Delegation to an informal meeting on 12 November 2008. The purpose of the meeting was to enable the Director-General to report to Members on a meeting with major providers of trade finance the same morning as well as providing an opportunity for delegations to exchange views on the implications of the financial crisis and the response of the WTO. Norway is one of WTO's founding Members and was also among the first signatories to the GATT. WTO has an over-arching role in providing stable, predictable and transparent rules for international trade. The Multilateral Trading System is central to Norwegian trade policy.
