The 17th Session of the Universal Periodic Review

Last updated: 24.10.2013 // The 17th Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in the Human Rights Council takes place from 21th to 30th October 2013.

The UPR is a mechanism where all UN member states review the human rights situation of each other. The UPR works as an interactive dialogue, and UN member states can ask questions and come with recommendations to the states that are under review.

During the 17th session the following countries are under review: Saudi Arabia, Senegal, China, Nigeria, Mexico, Mauritius, Jordan, Malaysia, Central African Republic, Monaco, Belize, Chad, Israel, Congo and Malta. Norway will be sending in advance questions and holding statements on nine of the fifteen states.

Norway takes an active role in the UPR and the Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva holds consultations with the Capital, relevant Embassies and civil society human rights agents in advance of and in the follow-up of the the UPR.
